Open since October 2009, the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa towers 33 stories above Richman Street in Black Hawk, Colorado. While it is not the only hotel in Black Hawk, or even the largest, it is said to be the most luxurious. Is all the talk of fancy rooms and great service just hype?
Room Types and Rates
The best way to form an opinion about the Ameristar is to stay there. The hotel offers 472 standard rooms and 64 suites. All rooms contain luxury furnishings and linens, plasma TVs, double vanities, separate tubs and showers, and marble foyers. Additionally, the suites contain hot tubs, fireplaces, and awesome views.
Reservations can be made in three main categories: full-price rooms, discounted or special package rooms, and comped rooms. Regular gamblers at the casino are rewarded with $59 off-peak room rates, and big spenders are enticed to spend even more through coupons for free rooms. Standard room rates are $109 – $209 per night.
Amenities

Soft drink vending and ice machines are available within the hotel, but soda and coffee are complimentary on the casino floor.
After a great meal, you can relax at the spa or work off the pounds at the fitness center. Guests have access to the massages, scrubs, facials, pedicures, manicures, hot tubs, saunas, and steam rooms at the ARA Day Spa.
You can also spend your downtime taking in fresh mountain air by the water. All guests at the Ameristar Casino Resort Spa can enjoy the rooftop swimming pool (Black Hawk’s only hotel pool) and indoor/outdoor hot tubs. The open-air heated patio surrounding the pool is enclosed with glass walls during the winter to preserve the mountain views. Note that the pool is covered by a roof, so it is protected during inclement weather.
Getting There
The Ameristar Casino Resort Spa is located 40 miles west of Denver, Colorado off of Highway 119 in Black Hawk. Guests of both the hotel and the casino can park for free in the 10-story parking garage or take advantage of valet parking.
